2012 MAZDA3 Starts at $15,200

Mazda has announced pricing for its freshened Mazda3 will start at $15,200 for the i SV sedan, but if you want the new SkyActiv-G 2.0-liter engine, you would need to choose the Touring model with an MSRP of $18,450.

The Mazda3 will offer four different engines for 2012, making sorting through the trim levels and variations a bit tricky. The line starts with a base sedan fitted with an MZR 2.0-liter engine producing 148 hp. This is offered in SV and Sport trims, with the well-appointed Sport including standard keyless entry and an optional five-speed automatic transmission.

The Touring version swaps the MZR engine for the new SkyActiv-G 2.0-liter engine that promises better fuel economy—EPA-rated at 40 mpg on the highway—and performance, with 155 hp. It will be available with a six-speed manual transmission.

The hatchback model will start at $18,950 for the Touring version with SkyActiv-G and an EPA rating of 39 mpg highway. A Grand Touring model builds upon the Touring version and is available in a sedan starting at $22,300 and the hatchback with an MSRP of $22,800. A six-speed automatic transmission is available for both models at an additional $850. The i Grand Touring model will have a standard power moonroof, power driver’s seat, and leather-trimmed and heated seats, plus navigation and information display.

The Mazda3 s is available in Touring and Grand Touring with an MZR 2.5-liter engine producing 167 hp and starts at $21,300 for the sedan and $21,800 for the hatchback. Standard features include 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, keyless entry and push button start, moonroof, and surround sound. Navigation is standard on s Grand Touring models.

The top-of-the line Mazdaspeed3 will start at $24,000, and this performance variant is equipped with a turbocharged 2.3-liter direct-injection engine outputting 263 hp. Standard equipment includes 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, sport-tuned exhaust, larger front brakes, red and black interior styling with leather and cloth sport seats and leather shift knob. The front fascia, fenders and hood also have a different look on the Mazdaspeed.
